Let's talk money

As the saying goes, money can't buy happiness but the lack of it sure can make a person miserable.  With money comes independence, freedom and the ability to choose.  Without it, a woman is vulnerable and at the mercy of those who have resources.

To illustrate the importance of money, let's look at Mother Teresa.  Yes, that Mother Teresa!  Most people are unaware that she spent a considerable amount of her time raising funds.  She had lots of high powered people on her Rolodex.  She realized that it was impossible to feed and clothe the poor much less care for her own flock of sisters without financial resources.  While it wasn't her favorite activity, it was necessary to achieve her goal of tending to the disadvantaged.  Mother Teresa needed money and so do we!  We have to feed our flocks too.  If we don't have enough money to meet our daily expenses, we have to turn to others for assistance.  Unfortunately, not everyone has our best interests at heart.  Sad as it may be, the vultures are always circling.  There are always those who prey on the weak.  And women without money are operating from a postion of weakness and not strength.

For women to keep their power, they must accumulate money.  Most financial planners suggest having a six month nest egg available for emergencies.  While that may not be practical, a goal is to have at least enough to get by for a month.  Today is the day to look at your finances.  Are you prepared in case of an emergency?  Could you take care of yourself and your children if your husband left you?  How about if you lost your job?  Without a plan, many women end up in situations they don't want.  They become dependent on others for their well being.  Once that happens, choice is gone.  Money is important--not so much because of what it can buy--but because of what it can do.  And what it does is give those who have it the ability to make decisions that are the best for themselves and their family.
Next time we'll talk some more money plus lots more.  In the meantime, keep your power!
